CSK and DC Qualify for Playoffs- SRH and MI in the ace

More than 40 matches out of 60 scheduled in IPL 12 are finished and only two teams out of 8 have earned the adequate points to qualify for the playoffs. IPL 2019 had started off on an enthralling note with Chennai Super Kings taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore team in Chennai. After an exciting 35 days, Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals have earned 16 points earning a place in the playoffs.

Chennai Super Kings, branded as one of the strongest teams of IPL, has proved itself again by being the first to qualify for the playoffs. The team had won 8 of the 12 matches it had played in IPL 12 and it is now in second place in the points table given its net run rate. It had defeated all of the teams at least once except Mumbai Indians.

CSK team comprises of veteran players like MS Dhoni (C), Shane Watson, Dwayne Bravo, Suresh Raina, Murali Vijay, Ambati Rayudu, Imran Tahir, Faf Du Plessis, Ravindra Jadeja, Harbhajan Singh, and young players like Deepak Chahar, Sam Billings, Shardul Thakur, Mohit Sharma, Mitchell Santner, etc. The team is perfectly balanced and is one of the best performing teams of IPL 12.

Another team that had qualified for IPL 12 Playoffs is Delhi Capitals. Delhi Capitals qualified first for the playoffs in 2012. After 6 long years, the team had again earned enough points to qualify for the playoffs. The team now holds 16 points and a better net run rate than CSK and is on the top of the points table. DC team had a rather rough ride in IPL 12. The team comprised of players like Shikhar Dhawan, Colin Ingram, Shreyas Iyer (C) Rishabh Pant, Kagiso Rabada, Ishant Sharma, Colin Munro, Axar Patel, Keemo Paul, etc.

Since two places confirmed their places in the playoffs, only two positions are left for other teams to try their luck. The two teams that currently do have a chance are Mumbai Indians and Sun Risers Hyderabad. Mumbai Indians currently hold 14 points and are at the third position of the points table. SRH earned 12 points but is ahead of other teams. KKR, KXIP, and RR follow it with 10 points each respectively.

Both MI and SRH have two games ahead and if MI wins in 1, the team qualifies for the playoffs. SRH’s chances of entering the playoffs are a little sketchy as the team reaches playoffs if it wins in two matches. If the team loses even in 1 match it would have to compete with KKR, KXIP, or RR even if one of them manages to secure two wins in the remaining two games. Though SRH has a better run rate than the three teams, there are chances of the teams winning with a big difference and if that happens, the chances of SRH entering the playoffs are void.

The other possibility is if MI loses in both the upcoming games, it will have to compete with every team that earns 14 points. The team’s current run rate is positive and is better than the other teams but there is a chance that the other teams might earn a better run rate than MI voiding its chances of entering the playoffs of IPL 12. While plenty of possibilities of the teams entering the playoffs exist, the highest possibility considering the current points and the run rate is that of MI and SRH.
